The Music of The Pearl

I think the quote symbolizes how the pearl had been evil, and caused harm to Kino's family. When he finally threw it into the ocean, he was ridding himself from the misfortune it had caused them.
When Kino threw it in the ocean and the music drifted away, it symbolized how as the music disappeared so did their responsibility of the pearl. The music accured numerous times in the story, and I think this is  because it was reminding Kino of the pearl's cruelness and terrible luck. But once Kino discarded the pearl, the music faded and finally was back in it's home, the sea.
The pearl affected their family by uncovering their greed and selfishness. I don't believe the pearl caused the greed, but more revealed it. Once the tiniest seed had been given nutrients, it blossomed into a thriving plant. Which, was definitely not a beautiful one. This also happened to the village people as well, causing the society to do things they normally would not have done. The pearl caused many of the people to act against their morals.

Mary,I really enjoyed your point of view of the pearl. I hadn't really thought about the way you described the greed of the pearl. I could tell you understood the topic very well. It was easy to understand and very well worded. I also saw the connection. My favorite section was when you said that the pearl didn't cause greed but it revealed it. Your overall interpretation was superior.
